On October 26, 2022, PFLAG Cape Cod hosted the symposium, Supporting LGBTQ+ Students in Our Schools. Funded by a grant from the Gay and Lesbian Equity Fund of The Cape Cod Foundation, the symposium presented educators and faculty from Cape and Islands schools with the knowledge they need to better understand and support LGBTQ+ students in their schools.
Presenters and speakers included Kimm Topping of the Safe Schools Program; State Senator Julian Cyr; State Rep. Sarah Peake; Dirk Correia, PFLAG Cape Cod's GSA Outreach Ambassador; and Jeff Hauck, a current LGBTQ+ high school student.

GSA Network (www.gsanetwork.org) is a national youth leadership organization that strives to educate schools and communities, advocate for justice, and prevent harassment and violence.
Study.com (www.study.com) wants to make sure teachers have the tools to create classroom environments that welcome and celebrate all students, especially students who are part of the LGBTQ+ community. To support their efforts, they’ve created a guide to Incorporating LGBTQ+ Flags and History into Your Curriculum to improve the representation of LGBTQ+ people and history. Teachers may also be interested in their The Teacher's Guide to Creating a Safe Space for LGBTQ+ Students, which provides even more strategies and time for creating inclusive classrooms.
Trevor Project (www.trevorproject.org) provides 24/7 crisis support services to LGBTQ+ young people. Text, chat, or call anytime to reach a trained counselor.
We Thrive/Cape & Islands Gay-Straight Youth Alliance (www.cigsya.org) house in Hyannis provides camaraderie and support in a peer-lead, adult-advised environment, free from judgment.
Matthew’s Place (www.matthewsplace.com) is an online community for LGBTQ+ youth ages 13-24 providing a safe place to find support, fight against bullying, and have their voices heard.
It Gets Better Project (www.itgetsbetter.org) uplifts, empowers, and connects LGBTQ+ youth around the globe so they'll see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future.
TransYouth Family Allies (www.imatyfa.org) partners with educators, service providers, and communities to develop supportive environments.
Trans Youth Equality Foundation (www.transyouthequality.org) - Education, advocacy and support for transgender & gender non-conforming youth and families.
Family Acceptance Project (www.familyproject.sfsu.edu) is a community research, intervention, education and policy initiative that works to decrease major health and related risks for LGBT youth.

Learning for Justice (www.learningforjustice.org) seeks to uphold the mission of the Southern Poverty Law Center: to be a catalyst for racial justice in the South and beyond, working in partnership with communities to dismantle white supremacy, strengthen intersectional movements, and advance the human rights of all people.
Welcoming Schools (www.welcomingschools.org) is the most comprehensive bias-based bullying prevention program in the nation to provide LGBTQ+ and gender-inclusive professional development training, lesson plans, book lists, and resources specifically designed for educators and youth-serving professionals.
Partners in Sex Education (www.partnersinsexeducation.org) has been supporting age-appropriate, inclusive, comprehensive sex education in K-12 since 2006
Trans Student Educational Resources (TSER) (https://transstudent.org/) is a youth-led organization dedicated to transforming the educational environment for trans and gender non-conforming students through advocacy and empowerment. Founded in 2011, it is the only national organization led by trans youth.
